Located on the peninsula of Lake Sevan, Sevanavank was founded in 305 by Gregory the Enlightener. Excavations revealed This place was inhabited during the Stone Age and the Bronze Age. According to the inscription on the south wall of the Church of the Holy Apostles, the monastery was enlarged and built in the 9th century and was organized by the daughter of Achot I Bagratuni, the founder of the royal family of Bagratuni.
